Matcha<\/strong> literally means \u201cpowdered tea.\u201d When you brew traditional\u00a0green tea, components from the leaves get infused into the hot water, then the leaves are discarded. With matcha, you\u2019re drinking the actual leaves, which have been finely powdered and then dissolved in the hot water.<\/p>\n

Unlike traditional green tea, production of matcha involves covering the tea plants with shade cloths before they\u2019re harvested. This triggers the growth of leaves with better flavor and texture, which are hand selected, steamed briefly to stop fermentation, then dried and aged in cold storage, which deepens the flavor. The dried leaves are then stone-ground into a fine powder.<\/p>\n

The process of brewing of matcha is the focus of Japanese tea ceremonies, and it has long been associated with Zen.<\/p>\n

Because matcha is made from high-quality tea, and the whole leaves are ingested, it is even more potent source of useful nutrients than steeped green tea. HOW TO BREW MATCHA GREEN TEA<\/h4>\n

Pre-heat cup or pot for a few minutes before steeping tea leaves. Brew with boiled mineral water cooled down to a temperature of 70-80\u00b0C, based on 1\/2 teaspoon of matcha powder per 60-70 ml of water. Then, whisk briskly (using traditional bamboo whisk or regular fork) in a \u201cW\u201c shaped pattern for a minute or two until the matcha froths to a nice green colored foam.<\/p>\n
